Nursing, B.S.

The Wayland Baptist University School of Nursing derives its mission from the purpose of the university which is to educate students in an academically challenging, learning-focused and distinctively Christian environment for professional success and service to God and humankind. The School of Nursing strives to prepare baccalaureate nursing graduates that are competent and caring in the delivery of patient care in a diverse health care environment.

Generic BSN Program

The program provides the student the ability to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in two years after completing the general education core. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B series prior to beginning the program. All students are required to complete a drug screen and a background check prior to admission to the program. The Hepatitis B series, drug screen and background check will be paid by the student. Contact the nursing school to find out the cost of these fees. Applicants, for admission to the nursing program, must complete the application process by May 1 for Fall admission and by October 1 for Spring admission. The student’s over all academic record is considered for admission including the following criteria:

  1. Completion of all but 9 semester credit hours of prerequisite courses with a minimum of C. The 9 semester credit hours lacking cannot be science courses, math courses, or social science courses. All of these prerequisite courses must be completed before the beginning of the student’s fifth term.
  2. Pass the Entrance Examination with a score set by the national benchmark for the exam.
  3. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.00 scale in all course work to date
  4. Must receive a MMR, TDAP, Varicella, Hepatitis B Immunizations, Flu shot and TB screening.
  5. Must have CPR taught by the American Heart Association.
  6. All LVN to BSN students will be required to pass the Entrance Examination with a score set by the national benchmark for the exam. Once they have passed the Entrance Examination, they will also be required to pass a face-to-face Skills Check off.

Fulfillment of these guidelines does not guarantee admission. Those applicants who have higher GPAs will be considered first.

However, a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of nondisclosure may become a character and fitness issue. Pursuant to other sections of the Government Code chapter 411, the Texas Board of Nursing is entitled to access criminal history record information that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure. If the Board discovers a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure, even if you properly did not reveal that matter, the Board may require you to provide information about any conduct that raises issues of character.
