Supplemental Certification

Any student seeking initial elementary, middle, secondary, or all level teacher certification may add the ESL (English as a Second Language) (supplemental certification) by taking the following 12 designated hours and passing the appropriate state examination.

• ENGL 4345 - Teaching English as a Second Language 3 hrs
• ENGL 4306 - Introduction to Linguistics 3 hrs
• EDLI 4348 - Literacy Processes of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Populations 3 hrs
• EDLI 4328 - Language Acquisition 3 hrs

Second Teaching Field

teaching minor (second field) is created with 24 hours in an academic discipline for which certification is approved by TEA with at least 12 of the hours being junior level or above. The student must demonstrate proficiency by passing the state practice test in the subject area and the state test (TExES) in teaching field.
