Course Requirements
The major requires 40 semester hours, of which at least 32 hours are upper-level. Twenty-eight of these hours are from a set core and 12 hours are selected from the additional courses listed. Students are encouraged to choose these 12 hours such that they best prepare the student for their future career goals. *MATH 1306 Elementary Statistics , MSCI 2311 Scientific Computing , and MSCI 3101 Faith and Science Seminar are required courses for all math and science majors. MATH 1306 and MSCI 2311 can each be used to fulfill three hours of general education and degree core requirements in math and computer literacy, respectively. Students are encouraged to complete a chemistry minor with this major. Twelve hours from the following:
Possible Sequence of Courses
Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology with Chemistry Minor Possible Sequence of Courses - the following is ONE four-year schedule that would result in the B. S. degree in molecular biology. Many other permutations of this plan are possible including additional majors and/or minors in other disciplines. All upper-level science courses are on rotation making exact duplication of this four-year plan impossible for some students. This plan is intended as a guide only. Students are strongly encouraged to choose their courses in consultation with their advisor. Freshman Year Fall Semester:

Notations:
To reduce hours per semester, plan to take May and/or summer classes.
Upper-level biology and chemistry courses are offered on a rotating basis, where some courses are taught every other year. This will require flexibility to move courses between the junior and senior years.
If a student is seeking entrance into medical school or some other professional school, there may be other requirements as prerequisite courses such as Physics I and II that are not part of the molecular biology program which must be added in the junior and senior years. |
