Nursing, Generic, B.S.N.

BSN Program

The program provides the student the ability to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in two years after completing the general education core. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B series prior to beginning the program. This program is offered face-to-face. All students are required to complete a drug screen and a background check prior to admission to the program. The Hepatitis B series, drug screen and background check will be paid by the student. Contact the nursing school to ﬁnd out the cost of these fees. Applicants, for admission to the nursing program, must complete the application process by May 1 for Fall admission and by October 1 for Spring admission. The student’s over all academic record is considered for admission including the following criteria:

Pass the Entrance Examination with a score set by the national benchmark for the exam.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.00 scale in all course work to date
Must receive a MMR, TDAP, Varicella, Hepatitis B Immunizations, Flu shot and TB screening.
Must have CPR taught by the American Heart Association.
Completion of all prerequisite courses with a minimum of C

Fulﬁllment of these guidelines does not guarantee admission. Those applicants who have higher GPAs will be considered ﬁrst.

Readmission Requirements

All students in the School of Nursing will only be allowed one readmission into their program.

Eligibility Requirements

Upon graduation from the School of Nursing, you will be applying for licensure with the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). When applying, the BON will require you to answer the following questions. If you answer yes to any of these questions you will be required to petition to the BON for licensure. Wayland Baptist University School of Nursing recommends that you start the petition process now so that you will have clearance upon graduation.For any criminal offense, including those pending appeal, have you:

been convicted of a misdemeanor?
been convicted of a felony?
pled nolo contendere, no contest, or guilty?
received deferred adjudication?
been placed on community supervision or court-ordered probation, whether or not adjudicated guilty?
been sentenced to serve jail or prison time? court-ordered conﬁnement?
been granted pre-trial diversion?
been arrested or have any pending criminal charges?
been cited or charged with any violation of the law?
been subject of a court-martial; Article 15 violation; or received any form of military judgment/punishment/action?

(You may only exclude Class C misdemeanor trafﬁc violations.)

Notations:

Expunged and Sealed Offenses: While expunged or sealed offenses, arrests, tickets, or citations need not be disclosed, it is your responsibility to ensure the offense, arrest, ticket or citation has, in fact, been expunged or sealed. It is recommended that you submit a copy of the Court Order expunging or sealing the record in question to our ofﬁce with your application. Failure to reveal an offense, arrest, ticket, or citation that is not in fact expunged or sealed, will at a minimum, subject your license to a disciplinary ﬁne. Non-disclosure of relevant offenses raises questions related to truthfulness and character.

Orders of Non-Disclosure: Pursuant to Texas Government Code § 552.142(b), if you have criminal matters that are the subject of an order of non-disclosure you are not required to reveal those criminal matters on this form. However, a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of nondisclosure may become a character and ﬁtness issue. Pursuant to other sections of the Government Code chapter 411, the Texas Board of Nursing is entitled to access criminal history record information that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure. If the Board discovers a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure, even if you properly did not reveal that matter, the Board may require you to provide information about any conduct that raises issues of character.

Are you currently the target or subject of a grand jury or governmental agency investigation?
Has any licensing authority refused to issue you a license or ever revoked, annulled, canceled, accepted surrender of, suspended, placed on probation, refused to renew a license, certiﬁcate or multi-state privilege held by you now or previously, or ever ﬁned, censured, reprimanded or otherwise disciplined you?
Within the past ﬁve (5) years have you been addicted to and/or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug?
Within the past ﬁve (5) years have you been diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized for schizophrenia and/or psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder?

NOTATIONS:
1. COMS requirement may differ by degree. The B.S.N. specifies COMS 1301 or higher. Students pursuing teacher certification should take COMS 2302 .
2. ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302 should be taken within first year of enrollment.
3. ECON 2307 cannot be used for students pursuing the Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
4. EDUC 2307 is required for teacher certification.
5. PSYC 1301 is required for students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
6. Fine Arts requirements for the B.S.N. specifies ART 1301 or higher or MUSI 1303 or higher. The B.M. and B.A. in Music degrees specify ART 1301 , ART studio course, THEA 1303 , THEA 2307 , or THEA 3308 . The B.F.A. in Theatre specifies ART 1301 , ART 2301 , or studio art. The B.S.I.S. EC-6 degree can take FNAR 2401 . The B.A. in Worship Studies specifies MUSI 3305 .
7. Bachelor of Science in Nursing students must take BIOL 3410 to meet this requirement.
8. HIST 2301 and HIST 2302 are required for teacher certification.
9. Wayland Baptist University will not accept RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, from any institution except other Baptist institutions to meet the core requirement in any Wayland degree. If a student has taken RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History and/or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, at any institution except other Baptist institutions, then the student has two options to meet the core requirement: (1) take RLGN 1301 and/or RLGN 1302 at Wayland or (2) take THST 4310 , THST 4311 , THST 4312 , THST 4313 , or THST 4320 in lieu of RLGN 1301 ; and/or take THST 4320 , THST 4321 , THST 4322 , or THST 4323 in lieu of RLGN 1302 . THST 4320 may be an option for either RLGN 1301 or RLGN 1302 as stated above, but may not count for both on the same degree plan. No other THST/MNST courses may substitute for either RLGN 1301 or RLGN 1302 . The Dean of the School of Christian Studies must approve any exception to this policy. RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, taken at non-Baptist institutions, may be transferred as elective credit with approval of the Dean of the School of Christian Studies and the Registrar. RLGN 1303 and RLGN 1304 are required for the Theological Studies major and all School of Christian Studies minors to meet the requirement of RLGN 1301 and RLGN 1302 . This does not apply to or B.A.S. degree.
10. B.S. degree requires EXSS 1112 and one activity course. B.F.A. in Theatre does not require EXSS courses due to activity requirements in major. EXSS courses that can be used to fulfill this requirement include a statement to that affect in the course description. Students who have served two or more years in the Armed Forces are exempt from EXSS requirements with DD-214 from basic training. One credit of Marching Pioneers (MUSI 1116 , MUSI 2116 , MUSI 3116 , or MUSI 4116 ) may be used towards EXSS activity requirement.
11. Life science includes Biology and Environmental Science courses. Physical science includes Chemistry, Geology and Physics courses.
12. Students pursuing the B.B.A., B.S., or B.S.I.S. Middle School Core Subjects, B.S.I.S. Middle School Math, and B.S.I.S. Middle School Science degrees are required to take MATH 1304 .
13. GRAD 0001 not required for Associate degree.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Specific General Education Core Course Requirements - 27 hrs (Generic B.S.N.)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.) provides students the ability to complete a degree in two years after completing the general education core. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B series prior to beginning the program. All students will be required to complete a drug screen and a background check prior to admission to the program. The Hepatitis B series, drug screen, and background investigation are at the cost of the student. Contact the School of Nursing for current costs. Academic Major and Minor

The major field of study for the B.S.N. is a composite. This means that a second major or minor is not required for the degree. Student pursuing the L.V.N. to B.S.N. degree program should contact the School of Nursing for further information.

Electives

Electives are not required for the completion of this degree.

Nursing Major

Students must be accepted into the program before beginning nursing courses. A student must have an overall prerequisite grade point average of 2.5 or higher for admission into the program. All courses are sequential and must be passed with a grade of 75 or better before continuing to the next one.
