Associate of Applied Science General Education Core Course Requirements - 32 hrs


The A.A.S. degree program is designed to track directly into the B.A.S. degree. Students desiring to continue in their educational pursuits can do so at the baccalaureate level with no loss in credit between the A.A.S. and the B.A.S. degrees. The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is a 65-credit hour degree which requires 32 credit hours in a general education core and 33 credit hours from an approved major. The residency requirements on the A.A.S. degree count toward the B.A.S. residency of 31 hours. The A.A.S. residency is 18 hours. The five majors include applied science, business administration, human services, criminal justice administration, and Christian ministry. Eighteen credit hours must be completed at Wayland.

Majors


Five majors are available for the A.A.S. degree. These include applied science , business administration , Christian ministry , human services , and criminal justice administration . Requirements for each major are included in the Associate of Applied Science degree section of this catalog.

Christian Ministry


Course Requirements


Students majoring in Christian ministry must complete 33 credit hours and must take courses from each of five separate areas: Biblical, historical, theological, educational, and practical. Course requirements for each area include the following:

Three hours from:


(the course not taken in the general education core)

Nine hours from the following:


  • 3 hrs **
  • Upper-Level Religion Elective 3 hrs
  • Upper-Level Religion Elective 3 hrs
  • Upper-Level Religion Elective 3 hrs
  • *Three of the nine hours can be work experience

Notations:


**Students in the BGCT Ministerial Financial Assistance program are required to take MNST 3300 - Introduction to Ministry , MNST 3301 - Spiritual Formation , and MNST 4360 - Practicum .

*Wayland Baptist University will not accept RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History  or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, from any institution except other Baptist institutions to meet the core requirement in any Wayland degree. If a student has taken RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History  and/or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, at any institution except other Baptist institutions, then the student has two options to meet the core requirement: (1) take RLGN 1301  and/or RLGN 1302  at Wayland or (2) take THST 4310 , THST 4311 , THST 4312 , THST 4313 , or THST 4320  in lieu of RLGN 1301 ; and/or take THST 4320 , THST 4321 , THST 4322 , or THST 4323  in lieu of RLGN 1302 THST 4320  may be an option for either RLGN 1301  or RLGN 1302  as stated above, but may not count for both on the same degree plan. No other THST/MNST courses may substitute for either RLGN 1301  or RLGN 1302 . The Dean of the School of Christian Studies must approve any exception to this policy. RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History  or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, taken at non-Baptist institutions, may be transferred as elective credit with approval of the Dean of the School of Christian Studies and the Registrar.
