Early Childhood, Undergraduate Certificate

An Early Childhood Certificate is available as an option for students wanting to work with children, but for whom seeking teacher certification is not an option. The Early Childhood certificate is not a teaching certificate, but is a certification provided from the Texas Department of Health & Human Services for providing Early Childhood Intervention Services for children birth through age three.

Students in this program are required to complete 18 hours in Early Childhood coursework as follows:

Courses that meet the 3-hour requirement in early childhood development or early childhood special education:

ECHD 2304 - Introduction to Working with Infants and Toddlers 3 hrs
ECHD 1301 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education 3 hrs

Courses that meet the 15-hour requirement relevant to early childhood intervention:

EDUC 2306 - Child Growth and Development 3 hrs
ECHD 2301 - Early Childhood Curriculum and Planning 3 hrs
ECHD 2302 - Health, Safety, and Nutrition for the Young Child 3 hrs
ECHD 4312 - Partnering with Parents 3 hrs
ECHD 4319 - Administration of Programs for Young Children 3 hrs
EDLI 3308 - Early Literacy and Phonics 3 hrs
EDSP 2304 - Introduction to Special Education 3 hrs
EXSS 3331 - Program Development for Elementary Health and Physical Education 3 hrs
