Comparative Languages, Minor

Students must take three separate languages for this minor. The minor requires a minimum of 21 credit hours. *Nine hours are included in the general education core curriculum. Prerequisite of 1401 and/or 1402 may be required for the first foreign language and can be used as electives toward the degree. Students with two years of documented high school foreign language (minimum grade ‘B’ or 3.0) may enroll in 2000-level courses (or higher where prerequisites allow) in that same language. Any student with significant information background in a foreign language may contact the School of Humanities and Leadership for information about placement testing. Neither high school language nor placement testing may be used for the second or third foreign languages.

First foreign language 2301 and 2302 6 hrs *
Second foreign language 1301/1401 and 1302/1402 6 hrs **
Third foreign language 1301/1401 3 hrs **
Six hours from the following:
ENGL 4306 - Introduction to Linguistics 3 hrs
ENGL 4345 - Teaching English as a Second Language 3 hrs
COMS 3303 - Intercultural Communication 3 hrs *
Upper-level elective(s) from first foreign language

**CHIN, FREN, GERM, LATN, and SPAN 1301 and CHIN, FREN, GERM, LATN, and SPAN 1302 may be taught at external campuses as three-hour courses without additional emphasis given to the communicative aspect and may be used to fulfill minor requirements.
