Return to: Graduate Curriculum
This certificate program prepares graduate students to read, analyze, research, and write about literature with a concentration in teaching English. It offers students a flexible and unique experience by allowing students to pursue a variety of classes and topics in an online setting. It is ideally suited for:
- High school teachers without an M.A. or who have an M.A. in a field other than English and want to earn additional graduate hours that may allow them to teach English in the dual credit classroom.
- College instructors who have an M.A. in a field other than English and want to earn additional graduate hours that may allow them to teach English in the community college classroom.
- Individuals interested in graduate work in English but aren’t ready to commit fully to a graduate program.
- This program does pair well with alternative or secondary education, post-baccalaureate certification but does not lead to teacher certification at the secondary level in a designated content field.
- Successful completion of certificate and approval of school dean warrants a waiver of some of the additional admission standards of M.A. English, such as letters of recommendation and writing sample.
- Must maintain a 3.0 average among 5000-level ENGL courses.
