Nursing, Online Program, B.S.N.

This program allows a student to complete all of the didactic coursework online, while completing the clinical portions of the course in a face to face weekend format. The student completes all but 28 hours of their general education coursework prior to applying for this program if they are a Chiropractor. If the student is not a Chiropractor, they must have all but 9 semester credit hours completed, excluding COSC 2311 .

BSN Program


The program provides the student the ability to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in two years after completing the general education core. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B series prior to beginning the program. All students are required to complete a drug screen and a background check prior to admission to the program. The Hepatitis B series, drug screen and background check will be paid by the student. Contact the nursing school to find out the cost of these fees. Applicants, for admission to the nursing program, must complete the application process by May 1 for Fall admission and by October 1 for Spring admission. The student’s over all academic record is considered for admission including the following criteria:

  1. Pass the Entrance Examination with a score set by the national benchmark for the exam.
  2. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.00 scale in all course work to date
  3. Must receive a MMR, TDAP, Varicella, Hepatitis B Immunizations, Flu shot and TB screening.
  4. Must have CPR taught by the American Heart Association.
  5. All LVN to BSN students will be required to pass the Entrance Examination with a score set by the national benchmark for the exam. Once they have passed the Entrance Examination, they will also be required to pass a face-to-face Skills Check off.

Fulfillment of these guidelines does not guarantee admission. Those applicants who have higher GPAs will be considered first.

Readmission Requirements

All students in the School of Nursing will only be allowed one readmission into their program.

Eligibility Requirements

Upon graduation from the School of Nursing, you will be applying for licensure with the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). When applying, the BON will require you to answer the following questions. If you answer yes to any of these questions you will be required to petition to the BON for licensure. Wayland Baptist University School of Nursing recommends that you start the petition process now so that you will have clearance upon graduation.For any criminal offense, including those pending appeal, have you:

  1. been convicted of a misdemeanor?
  2. been convicted of a felony?
  3. pled nolo contendere, no contest, or guilty?
  4. received deferred adjudication?
  5. been placed on community supervision or court-ordered probation, whether or not adjudicated guilty?
  6. been sentenced to serve jail or prison time? court-ordered confinement?
  7. been granted pre-trial diversion?
  8. been arrested or have any pending criminal charges?
  9. been cited or charged with any violation of the law?
  10. been subject of a court-martial; Article 15 violation; or received any form of military judgment/punishment/action?

(You may only exclude Class C misdemeanor traffic violations.)

Notations:

Expunged and Sealed Offenses: While expunged or sealed offenses, arrests, tickets, or citations need not be disclosed, it is your responsibility to ensure the offense, arrest, ticket or citation has, in fact, been expunged or sealed. It is recommended that you submit a copy of the Court Order expunging or sealing the record in question to our office with your application. Failure to reveal an offense, arrest, ticket, or citation that is not in fact expunged or sealed, will at a minimum, subject your license to a disciplinary fine. Non-disclosure of relevant offenses raises questions related to truthfulness and character.

Orders of Non-Disclosure: Pursuant to Texas Government Code § 552.142(b), if you have criminal matters that are the subject of an order of non-disclosure you are not required to reveal those criminal matters on this form. However, a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of nondisclosure may become a character and fitness issue. Pursuant to other sections of the Government Code chapter 411, the Texas Board of Nursing is entitled to access criminal history record information that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure. If the Board discovers a criminal matter that is the subject of an order of non-disclosure, even if you properly did not reveal that matter, the Board may require you to provide information about any conduct that raises issues of character.

  • Are you currently the target or subject of a grand jury or governmental agency investigation?
  • Has any licensing authority refused to issue you a license or ever revoked, annulled, canceled, accepted surrender of, suspended, placed on probation, refused to renew a license, certificate or multi-state privilege held by you now or previously, or ever fined, censured, reprimanded or otherwise disciplined you?
  • Within the past five (5) years have you been addicted to and/or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug?
  • Within the past five (5) years have you been diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized for schizophrenia and/or psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder?

University General Education Core Curriculum - 43 hrs


The University General Education Core Curriculum is applied to all degrees at Wayland Baptist University with the exception of the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) and the Bachelor of Christian Ministry (B.C.M.) degrees. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Specific General Education Core Course Requirements - 27 hrs (Generic B.S.N.)


The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.) provides students the ability to complete a degree in two years after completing the general education core. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B series prior to beginning the program. All students will be required to complete a drug screen and a background check prior to admission to the program. Academic Major and Minor


The major field of study for the B.S.N. is a composite. This means that a second major or minor is not required for the degree. Student pursuing the L.V.N. to B.S.N. degree or R.N. to B.S.N. degree programs should contact the School of Nursing for further information.

Electives


Electives are not required for the completion of this degree.

Nursing Major


Students must be accepted into the program before beginning nursing courses. A student must have an overall prerequisite grade point average of 2.5 or higher for admission into the program. All courses are sequential and must be passed with a grade of 75 or better before continuing to the next one.
