The Academic Achievement Program (ACAC) provides courses for students who need to develop more competence in the areas of reading comprehension, writing, mathematics, English proficiency, and academic and/or personal confidence to be successful in the university setting.

Taught by qualified academic personnel, ACAC courses do not count as credit toward a degree, but count as additional GPA hours on the transcript. Other institutions may not accept these courses for transfer credit. Likewise, Wayland Baptist University will not accept remedial/developmental credit from other institutions as transfer credit. If a student does not earn a “C” or better in an ACAC course, and the student takes the course at another college/university, he/she will be required to take the appropriate placement test/exam to determine further course placement. If the student does not take the failed ACAC course at WBU, it will not be accepted as transfer credit and the transcript will still reflect the failing grade in the grade point average.

Students admitted to Wayland with an ACT English score of 16 or lower, or an SAT writing score of 410 or lower will be required to take the WritePlacer Accuplacer placement assessment. Students with an ACT math score of 15 or lower or an SAT math score of 410 or lower will be required to take the Wayland Math Placement Exam. Students with an ACT reading score of 17 or lower or an SAT critical reading score of 410 or lower will be required to take the Next Generation Reading Accuplacer. The highest available ACT/SAT in math, English, and reading will be used for placement decisions.

Transfer students may be required to take additional placement testing as deemed necessary by the admissions committee.

The appropriate placement test/exam will be given to incoming freshmen based on ACT and/or SAT scores, and to transfer students if recommended by the admissions committee. Placement of students in English, math and reading will be based on the following placement scores:

WritePlacer Placement:
	5 and above	ENGL 1301 - Composition and Rhetoric
	3 or 4	ACAC 0331 - Writing II
	2 and below	ACAC 0330 - Writing I

Next Generation Reading Accuplacer Placement:
	244 and above	no course placement
	229-243	ACAC 0322 - College Reading II
	216-228	ACAC 0321 - College Reading I
	215 and below	statement of concern; review other scores and admission document

Wayland Math Placement:

The Wayland Math Placement scores have been set by the Wayland mathematics faculty and are available upon request from the School of Mathematics and Sciences.

A student must reach these scores and/or obtain the consent of the Dean of the appropriate academic school before being exempt from taking an ACAC course. Students placed in Academic Achievement courses may not withdraw from these courses unless withdrawing from the university. Students enrolled in two or more ACAC courses must also enroll in ACAC 0320 - Study Skills .

Students placed in Academic Achievement courses are required to take those courses during the first semester of enrollment. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better to pass these courses, and meet the exit exam scores required to advance to the next course. Students enrolled in ACAC 0330 , ACAC 0331 , ACAC 0321 , or ACAC 0322 will not be allowed to enroll in ENGL 1301 concurrently.

Students enrolled in the same Academic Achievement courses for two complete semesters will be reviewed by the admissions committee. A student who is not progressing satisfactorily, earning a “C” or better, will be suspended from the university. ACAC courses do not count as credit toward a degree but count as additional GPA hours on the transcript.
