Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.)


The Master of Public Administration is designed to prepare both public and non-public employees for a career and/or promotion in administration with the choice of alternative dispute resolution, general, government administration, homeland security and emergency management, and justice administration specializations. Any student who wants to take up to nine hours of MGMT courses as part of the specialization area must meet the required leveling course of MGMT 3304  or its substantial equivalent. BUAD 5300  meets this leveling requirement and also counts as a specialization course for this degree. MGMT 5320  (research methods) does not have this leveling requirement. With proper documentation, up to twelve (12) hours of graduate business course credit may be awarded toward the M.P.A. degree requirements from successful completion and official documentation of Intermediate and/or Senior Education Levels of the Military Services of the United States of America.

Degree Requirements

36 hours are required including 18 core hours and 18 hours of specialization courses in alternative dispute resolution, general, governmental administration, homeland security/emergency management, or justice administration.

Notations:


* Must be taken within the first 12 hours of the program.

# Capstone course is to be taken in the student’s last semester after ALL core courses and at least four specialization courses have been completed.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Specialization - 18 hrs


The Alternative Dispute Resolution specialization of the MPA program is designed to prepare students to be peacemakers in their career, leading others through creative solutions to conflict and providing an appropriate reconciliatory process for any situation. Alternative dispute resolution is a growing and active field with applications in many careers and settings.  The specialization is geared towards working professionals pursuing careers in the public administration field who have a desire to provide an alternate means of approaching conflict in the workplace and nationwide.
