Criminal Justice Administration, A.A.S.

Associate of Applied Science General Education Core Requirements - 30 hrs

The A.A.S. degree program is designed to track directly into the B.A.S. degree. Students desiring to continue in their educational pursuits can do so at the baccalaureate level with no loss in credit between the A.A.S. and the B.A.S. degrees. The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is a 63-credit hour degree which requires 30 credit hours in a general education core and 33 credit hours from an approved major. The residency requirements on the A.A.S. degree count toward the B.A.S. residency of 31 hours. The A.A.S. residency is 18 hours.

General Education Core - 30 hrs

Creative Expression for Engaging Community - 6 hrs

Critical Examination of Creation and Community - 9 hrs

Christian Foundations for Life in Community - 6 hrs


  1. ENGL 1301  and ENGL 1302  should be taken within first year of enrollment.
  2. HIST 1303  and/or HIST 1304  can be applied to either History or Multi-Cultural sections.
  3. Students with two years of documented high school foreign language (minimum grade of ‘B’ or 3.0) may enroll in 2000-level courses (or higher where prerequisites allow) in that same language. Any student with significant information background in a foreign language may contact the School of Languages and Literature for information about placement testing.
  4. Wayland Baptist University will not accept RLGN 1301 - Old Testament History  or RLGN 1302 - New Testament History , or their equivalents, from any institution except other Baptist institutions to meet the core requirement in any Wayland degree. If a student has taken RLGN 1301  and/or RLGN 1302 , or their equivalents, at any institution except other Baptist institutions, then the student has two options to meet the core requirement: (1) take RLGN 1301  and/or RLGN 1302  at Wayland or (2) take THST 4310 THST 4311 THST 4312 , or THST 4320  in lieu of RLGN 1301 ; and/or take THST 4320 THST 4321 THST 4322 , or THST 4323  in lieu of RLGN 1302 THST 4320  may be an option for either RLGN 1301  or RLGN 1302  as stated above, but may not count for both on the same degree plan. No other THST/MNST courses may substitute for either RLGN 1301  or RLGN 1302 . The Dean of the School of Christian Studies must approve any exception to this policy. RLGN 1301  or RLGN 1302 , or their equivalents, taken at non-Baptist institutions, may be transferred as elective credit with approval of the Dean of the School of Christian Studies and the Registrar.
  5. Students who have served two or more years in the Armed Forces are exempt from EXSS requirements with DD-214 from basic training.
  6. Students associated primarily with the Plainview campus must take BASC 1200  and EXSS 1112 . Students not associated primarily with the Plainview campus will take BASC 1301 .


Five majors are available for the A.A.S. degree. These include applied science , business administration , Christian ministry , human services , and criminal justice administration . Requirements for each major are included in the Associate of Applied Science degree section of this catalog.

Course Requirements

Students majoring in Criminal Justice Administration must complete 33 credit hours, of which 18 must be upper-level credit.  This major available to B.A.S. and A.A.S. degrees only.
