Pre-Professional Programs
Students who wish to enter specific professional or graduate schools should write to those schools to receive advice about the courses of study expected of those who would enter. Below are outlines of programs which are somewhat standard.
Most physical therapy programs across North America now offer doctoral degrees in physical therapy. Occupational therapy programs remain a master’s level professional degree. Although various articulation agreements between undergraduate programs and professional schools may offer opportunities to gain early admission, applicants to most programs are expected to have completed a baccalaureate degree by the time they begin their professional training. Entrance into a professional program is very competitive at this time. Even for those few schools that do not require a baccalaureate degree, we strongly suggest that the student complete their degree at Wayland before applying. We suggest that a student pursue a degree with a major in Biology and a minor in a complementary field. Also, two semesters of college physics are required by most professional programs.
