Purpose
The School of Humanities and Leadership seeks and encourages critical thinkers, effective communicators, and visionary leaders. Our dedicated faculty guide students on their journey, fostering intellectual growth and inspiring them to lead with integrity and compassion. This supportive network encourages and challenges students, providing a fulfilling college experience. By pursuing a degree in the School of Humanities and Leadership, students invest in their future and become part of a vibrant academic community. Degree programs in H&L prepare the leaders of tomorrow to navigate and shape the world with wisdom and purpose.
The School of Humanities and Leadership offers three undergraduate degrees: B.A., B.A.S., and Accelerated B.A. to M.A.
Within English Studies, our students select from a wide range of courses that nurture and enhance their passion for reading and writing, such as technical communication, creative writing, publishing, film, grammar and editing, and British, American, world, and diverse literatures. The School of H&L offers numerous specializations that pair with English, including Professional Writing, Comparative Literature, and Film.
The Humanities degree is a well-rounded program that enables students to select various courses within the humanities, building their degree to match their interests. This cultural exposure will help students who wish to go onto graduate school or who enter the job market.
Languages are an essential and crucial aspect of a liberal arts education. Not only will students be exposed to other cultures and peoples, but job opportunities in many fields will be enhanced, such as the legal, banking, teaching, and medical fields, to name a few. Also, with the ever-increasing demand for global communication, there is a continued need for interpreters and translators in many languages. A major or a minor in a language, along with study abroad experiences, will be a great addition to a résumé, as well.
The School of Humanities and Leadership is proud to offer classes in the following languages: American Sign Language, German, Latin, and Spanish.
Creative Leadership pairs our liberal-arts and cultural-studies approach with training in leadership. This interdisciplinary program teaches ethical decision making and advances students’ skills in professional communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and strategic influence, all while getting to explore leadership through a cultural and humanities-focused lens.
